Who is the antagonist in In the Castle of My Skin by George Lamming?

There are two obvious antagonists in the novel. First, the social hierarchy and oppression in Barbados, which causes massive povery among the villagers where Lamming lives. The second antagonist is Mr. Slime, a former teacher, who rises to political power on the platform of reform. Unfortunately, the power he wields only serves to corrupt him.
