What does Mac want to happen again, similar to Burke's incident, that he believes will push the men forward?

Mac knows that the men are sick and they are tired. If someone else did something like Burke, such as spilling a little bit of blood for the cause, the men would be solidified. The men should be proud of having fought even if they lose.
