A recurring idea is the connection between personal and professional life. Eve Dallas has led a life of independence with the vast bulk of her time spent on her professional career. Initially the Eve Dallas that the reader has come to know would have absolutely run screaming if she had come home to find four people waiting to cut her hair, give her a makeover, put all manner of lotions and potions all over her body to make her skin glow, to stand naked in front of four people to be fitted for her wedding dress, two of the people being men, neither of whom is her fiancé.
