Reed Fountain is the father of the Fountain children. He loves to carve his initials in things, which includes carving his initials in his desk, the dashboard of his Jeep, on his laptop, and on his cell phone. After his wife dies of cancer, Reed tries to manage running the household and the kids by himself. It proves to be overwhelming, so when Cheryl shows up to help, Reed puts her on a salary and enlists her help. It's Reed that is run over by his Jeep when Cheryl pulls up the parking brake so that it rolls over the top of him.
