What is the relevance of the hotel's location in the play, Idiot's Delight?

The hotel has a remote location in the Italian Alps, close to the borders of Switzerland and Austria. Because of the war in the neighboring countries, many of the hotel guests are trying to cross the border. This is one of the reasons they are all gathered in the hotel at once, creating the catalyst for the story.
