Who is Galileo Galilei from Ideas and Opinions and what is their importance?

Italian physicist, astronomer, and philosopher, Galileo Galilei, laid the groundwork for Sir Isaac Newton a century later by setting out the three laws of motion. Einstein calls him "the father of modern physics—indeed, of modern science altogether" because he drums into the scientific world that propositions arrived at by purely logical means are completely empty as regards reality.
