The chapters in this novel are jumbled and venture far away from any chronological order. The story actually takes place between 1973 and 2025. However, this does not mean that the storyline is lost. Ruskovich titles each chapter with the year in which those events takes place, lurching readers into snippets of every character's life during crucial times. Likewise, every chapter shifts to the point of view of a different character. The length of the chapters vary from close to fifty pages for some and less than a page for others.
