On the haunted hayride some boys invite John, Sam, Sarah and Sarah's friend to ride along. It is a set up. Halfway through the hayride they tell everyone to get off and walk the rest of the way through the dark woods. When they do so, someone throws a net over the boys, and the girls are hauled off by some of the other football players. Using his powers, John gets them out of the net. He also loses his temper and finds the boys in the woods and beats them up pretty badly.
