In Chapter Five, Elsa and her husband have a conversation about David, in which, she says that he can no longer stay in their home. She is grateful to David for saving Maria's life, she even says that she will pay for his care and education. Unfortunately, she is also afraid of the boy. She doesn't understand him, she doesn't want David to talk to Maria about the world's "evil", and she notes the mystery of his past. When she finally addresses the changes in their son, Carlos, her husband is compelled to agree.
