Charlotte is astonished by a number of things in her advanced French class. First, she realizes that many students have only read "Madame Bovary" in English and the professor has an English translation of the book. Finally, she is astonished when a basketball player purposefully answers a question incorrectly just because he was teased by his fellow teammates.
