I'm Not Who You Think I Am

One of the novel's main themes is taking a stand, how is this presented in terms of Tipper's refusal to laugh at a nasty joke in the novel, I’m Not Who You Think I Am?

In a flashback, Ginger remembers how her brother bragged about not laughing at a cruel joke. "But did you speak up?" her father had asked. Tipper admitted he had not. "Then you might as well have laughed. By keeping still, you implied it's okay to tell nasty jokes," their father had said.
