McNamara's narrates victim's interiority based on their accounts of the attacks, obtained from case files and interviews. The case files provide the material through which to create an image of the victim's experience, and also convey the terror that they felt during and after the attack. McNamara does not attempt to depict the inner thoughts of the Golden Gate Killer, nor does she narrate the attacks from his perspective.
