Kenny’s injury symbolizes the destructiveness of miscommunication and dysfunction. When it appears that Kenny may be about to shoot Tub, Tub shoots Kenny in self-defense. Kenny then says that he only meant his threat as a joke. The incident has further fallout due to Tub and Frank’s subsequent inattentiveness, as they repeatedly become sidetracked while driving Kenny to the hospital, and they even become quite lost.
