Does Hiccup find the How to Train Your Dragon book helpful in the novel, How to Train Your Dragon?

The How to Train Your Dragon book symbolizes hope that Hiccup will be able to find information that will help him train Toothless, but it turns out to be completely worthless and a symbol for the fact that the Vikings of the time know only one way to accomplish anything. In the case of training dragons, they all believe that yelling at it is the only option that will work.
