William Bush was the senior lieutenant aboard the Renown. Although, he is younger than Hornblower and has far more experience, Hornblower possesses higher intellect and is the better tactician. Bushe is described as a large, powerful man, who loves combat. He is a He consummate seaman and impeccable in the execution of his duty. Bush finds mathematics difficult, however, and has no comprehenion whatsoever of spherical trigonometry. Thus, his skills in navigation are lacking. Regardless, Bush is renown as a great leader, who inspires loyalty and admiration in the other men.
