Who is Mr. and Mrs. Bacon from Hole in My Life and what is their importance?

Mr. and Mrs. Bacon allow Gantos to stay with when he returns to Florida to finish his high school education. The couple are both disabled and sell prosthetics from their home to help pay the bills. Because they are unsuccessful, they welcome Gantos' rent, but when he begins partying all the time, and throwing up all over their carpets, they throw him out. This leads Gantos to his time at the King's Court, and perhaps plays a part in his decisions later in the novel, which land him in federal prison.
