A widow, Nakamura, was home and looking out her window when the detonation occurred. The mother of three had to extricate all three of her children from the heap of rubble her home had become. Miraculously, no one suffered serious injury. Nakamura suffered severe radiation sickness and struggled for years to hold a job and care for her family. She was later able to attain a good job. Each of her children had a successful life.
