There are a number of themes that you can consider. Certainly the psyche of men and women is one of them. The American sees his role in the pregnancy as minimal. He would just like the pregnancy to go away. Jig, the girl, sees the pregnancy as a part of herself: a part of her own body. The matter of fact way the man treats the pregnancy is in stark contrast to the emotional investment that Jig has in her own body and the pregnancy.
