Why does March bring her daughter, Gwen, with her to bury Judith Dale and settle her estate in the novel, Here on Earth?

March brings Gwen to Massachusetts because she doesn't trust her. She doesn't trust Gwen because she found birth control pills in her backpack, pot and rolling papers in her night table, and Gwen walks around with a look that concerns March.
