The play's main conflict revolves around Cardinal Wolsey's struggle to remove Queen Katherine from the throne. Katherine blames Wolsey for ruining her life. Wolsey also has a conflict with the Duke of Buckingham, who has been arrested with the Cardinal's help, but who is innocent of wrongdoing.
