Henry IV Part 1 does present some interesting issues with gender roles. For the most part, the play is concerned with masculinity and honor in male relations. Relationships and masculinity are examined between fathers sons, brothers, nephews. The plot's main narrative involves how the prince will inherit the crown from his father. The play's three female characters are only marginally significant but husband and wife dynamics are examined. In Henry IV Part 1 women are synonymous with rebellion and threatening to masculinity in general.
