Thoreau espoused living in nature and the benefits of living a simple life. He also believed in individualism with very limited government involvement. There are some contradictions to Thoreau's philosophy. Thoreau seems to be rather indifferent to human impact nature. While professing a disdain for abusing natural resources for material gain, he champions the entrepreneurial spirit that lead to the destruction of the environment.
