Why is there a change in the narrator's clothing in Section Four of the novel, Heat and Dust?

In Section Four, the narrator buys a knee length shirt and baggy trousers that are tied at the waist. She says that the Indian style of clothes are both cheaper and cooler. She also buys a pair of men's sandals as the women's are not big enough for her feet.
