How does Preus reveal differences between the American sailors and the Japanese fishermen?

The fishermen are dealing with culture shock. They are learning cultural differences between the Japanese and the sailors that have rescued them. The fishermen are being introduced to items and ways of life they have never encountered before. The fishermen also find it ironic that these so-called barbarians have such nice items.
