Who is Remus Lupin from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and what is their importance?

Remus Lupin is one of Hogwarts' former teachers. Remus was also an old friend of Harry's father, as well as Harry's godfather. When Remus wants to join Harry in his adventure, Harry refuses because it would mean Remus would have to leave his wife and child.
