The camera Carney buys in Part II symbolizes exposure. Carney wants the camera so that he can photograph Duke after falling asleep naked with a prostitute. He then decides to turn these images over to the newspaper in order to publicly humiliate Duke. The camera, therefore, exposes Duke's physical body and the truth of his questionable reputation.
