The window seat in the ARTT room symbolizes life on the fringes of society. Esteban spends a great deal of his time in the ARTT room sitting by the window, staring outside, and thinking about what is happening with his father. Although his family is living in America, they are on the fringes and in danger of being deported. Similarly, Esteban is placing himself on the fringes of the group by isolating himself. However, the kids rise above the behavior and move their seats to meet him where he is and include him in the circle of relationships.
