Mrs. Joe keeps the house lively with her constant stomoing and cleaning, made all the more frightening because she seems to redsent having to raise Pip, being married to a blacksmith, has a kindly , if not slightly stunned manner. Both characters seem rather opposite to each other but perhaps their core values are similar. Both have a strong sense of family and duty.
