In Great Expectations, Orlick loses his job because it is discovered that he is the one who has attacked Mrs. Joe so long ago with the convict's legirons and caused her to be a little less than she was before.

Orlick loses his job because Pip tells Mr, Jaggers that he isn't the right man for the job.

We actually don't find out that Orlick attacked Mrs. Joe until chapter 53.
