Serena, Blair's counterpart, is the "bad girl" who nevertheless often gets what she wants without even trying. She gets the part in the movie very naturally, for example, and is also going to Yale, though she demonstrates none of Blair's intelligence. Furthermore, she acts badly, committing crimes like shoplifting, taking drugs, and immorally, such as when she steals her best friend's boyfriend. Nevertheless, Serena's good nature and her cheerfulness do make her a sympathetic character, though a flawed one.
