Gone Girl is written in the first person point of view, from the perspective of each of the two main characters, Nick and Amy. Each section is from one of their perspectives. Then, the next section alternates to the other character's point of view. The novel swings back and forth between the present and the past. The present represents the time after Amy's disappearance. The past represents the time leading up to her disappearance.
