Martín is the only son of Cirilo and Casiopea’s cousin. The narrator says that all of his privilege comes from his status as a man and that Martín feels entitled to it. However, he is self-conscious of his failures and hates Casiopea after Cirilio says he wishes she had been a boy when Martín is expelled from school. This causes Martín to be incredibly cruel toward his cousin, and he blames her for everything wrong in his life. During his time as Vucub-Kamé’s champion, Martín becomes progressively angrier that Casiopea is unwilling to obey him and is determined to beat her. However, when he loses, he is surprised when she spares him and asks for her forgiveness. Martín decides not to go home, and travels alone to Guadalajara instead.
