Casiopea is the main character of the novel who accidentally binds herself to Hun-Kamé after a shard of his bone imbeds itself into her hand. At the beginning of the novel, Casiopea feels trapped by her cruel grandfather, Cirilio, and her cousin, Martín. She is not given the same privileges as Martín because she is a woman, but she learned as much as she could, including how to read. Casiopea struggles with her belief in god after losing her father at a young age, and questions her faith throughout the novel, especially while travelling with Hun-Kamé.
