Mexico City shows how other country’s cultures can influence the rest of the world. The narrator focuses heavily on the culture shift following the Jazz Age in America because it changed all of Mexico City. The narrator also highlights how previous cultures and ages have done the same thing. This includes the Catholic church’s arrival in the country, which ostracized other religions and created a culture of virtue and chastity. The Mayans lived in the city before, but were changed by the Spainards who followed. This shows a commonality between humans in all countries, as each one is capable of influencing the rest.
