Major General Ambrose Burnside commanded the ninth corps of the Union Army until McClellan was relieved of command for the last time. He was considered a good corps commander, but he completely choked when given full command of the army. He is described as inflexible and unbending, refusing to take advice or deviate from his plans. As a result, the battle near Fredericksburg was a complete disaster, and he too was removed from command.
