How does Ghost end up on the Defenders?

Ghost sets up to run alongside Lu, but outside the fence. Coach Brody calls him in, and offers to let him run. When he runs, he comes in close to Lu, and Coach Brody is impressed. Coach Brody offers to give him a spot on the team, if his mother will agree to it. Coach Brody drives Ghost home to ask her, and she agrees.
