George is left home alone to care for his cranky, mean and selfish grandmother. As a result, he decides to make her a medicine to change her.

George's medicone, which is comprised of everything from jujube fruit juice to spices, shoe polish, engine oil, and toothpaste, causes things to grow. His now enormous grandmother comes to believe that she is magical.

George's sexond batch of medicine doesn't prove to be as good as his first. It doesn't work the same way, it makes grandmother angry, and in the end, believing the medicine is tea, Grandmother drinks it and shrinks until she completely disappears. In the end, everyone is happy about Grandma's disappearance. Even George's mother, who was initially sad, believes her disappearance to be for the best.
