Gideon Largeman is Andrew's father and a revered psychiatrist. Although he tries to do everything right, Gideon has done wrong by his son. In a search for the perfect family he believes was lost after his wife's accident, Gideon sent Andrew away to boarding school. He has kept Andrew medicated for years so that Andrew will be happy, but Andrew finally begs Gideon to let them be who they are without trying to be perfect.
