Who is the antagonist in Galileo by Bertolt Brecht?

Galileo was broken, imprisoned, and contained by the Catholic Church.... a clear case of science vs religion. Unfortunately, the Church seemed to forget the fact that Galileo was a staunch Christian his entire life. His studies had no effect on his beliefs.
