The play's main conflict is the inner conflict that Sarah battles in trying to find herself.... her identity, and thus, establish who she is. Unfortunately, Sarah isn't able to define who she is, and over time, she isolates herself more and more. In the end, she notes her features, which are predominantly white.... and then she takes her own life.
