Who is Mones Alperstein from Fugitive Pieces and what is their importance?

Mones Alperstein was Jakob Beer's childhood friend in Biskupin, Poland. He was particularly skilled at skipping flat rocks across the water, and together, the boys collected cards of famous places packaged with candy, tore them in half, and each of them preserved one half, to rejoin someday when they would go into business together, marry, travel, and have children in the same year.
