Why does General G think it is a good idea to kill Bond in the novel, From Russia With Love?

General G listens to the arguments in favor of killing Bond. He settles upon the idea that Bond is a popular spy in England and through killing him they could dishonor his memory and cause a great deal of upset in the MI5 ranks.
