What happens to Friedman's apartment in Beirut?

Friedman moves from his apartment in Beirut to the Commodore Hotel. His driver's children move into his apartment to fend off refugees. Then the refugees set off a blast and bomb the apartment house, killing people inside, including his driver's wife and children.
