Football is really a springboard to a host of social and economic problems that plague this region. Oil industry boom and bust cycles are directly related to this. Think of a bubble chart with high-school football being in the middle. All the other bubbles would be themes connected with football. You can check out the themes below. All the themes have to do with economic and social, including racism, issues in the region.
