Lane and Franny's contrasting meals are symbolic of their differing views and attitudes. Lane orders snails and frog legs; fancy, upscale dishes that speak to his attempt at being unique and superior. In contrast, Franny orders a chicken sandwich and milk, a simple, unpretentious meal that upsets Lane.
