There is an open ending to Frankenstein's Monster because there is no cut and dried ending to the themes and questions that the novel raises. The monster does not die at the end of the novel, but rather, is still roaming about (symbolically, as well). The theme of man's domininon over nature, nature versus nuture, the nature of science, and what existence, life, and consciousness really mean. When does life begin and when does it end? Who should decide? All of these questions were pertinent then, and they are still germane today.
