The symbol of 'light' is used often in conjunction to various things that the doctor is interested in. At the beginning the light is pure, giving, nurturing, inquisitive. But, at the end, the light is the darker side of it. Also, there are numerous allusions to God and the creation of Adam. He considers himself a modern day Prometheus and in many ways there are parallells.
