How is Frankenstein important to today's society?

Some of the themes that arise from Frankestein's monster is that of tampering with nature and the awful consequences when man does that. Additionally, if one were to accept the novel as a whole, and understand why Mary Shelley wrote it (and something about her) one would also understand that it is an important statement regarding women's rights.
