Commitment is another theme of the novel because Stephanie's confusion over her desire for a committed relationship has a great deal to do with the tension between her and Morelli. Morelli has a reputation for moving from girl to girl without commitment and leaving broken hearts in his wake. Stephanie finds Morelli irresistible, but she wants a commitment someday, a marriage with children. Morelli is not the kind of man that Stephanie believes she can find this with. However, this knowledge does not keep Stephanie from imagining a life with Morelli.
