What is Psychohistory

Hari Seldon's combination of history, sociology, and mathematical statistics, first described in a paper delivered at the Decennial Mathematics Convention on the capital planet of Trantor, psychohistory to yield accurate results requires 1) very large groups of people, and 2) ignorance of the results by the population. The Galactic Empire, whose population numbers in the quadrillions, meets these criteria but is too massive to be practical. After decades of work by Hari and his colleagues, psychohistory still can do no more than predict probabilities among options.
